Lynn Schmittwilken is a psychologist and neuroscientist interested in visual perception, mammalian brain and behavior, and computational models of human vision.
She joined SCIoI as a doctoral researcher in September 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Marianne Maertens.
Lynn obtained her B.Sc. in Psychology and her M.Sc. in Neurosciences at Bremen University, with a main focus on the mammal brain and mammal behavior and a particular interest in the human brain. She received insights into the complexity and functionality of the central nervous system through her specialization in visual perception, which she researched using methods such as electrophysiology, psychophysics, and computational modeling.
As a doctoral researcher at SCIoI, Lynn studied visual processing in humans. Her interests lay in how humans synthesize the three-dimensional nature of their surroundings and how this information could be used to improve computer vision models. Her doctoral thesis explored how tiny involuntary eye movements affect what we see, especially when looking at edges, patterns, and spatial details.
