SCIoI at the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften 2025
What is intelligence? Experience it first-hand by diving into a plethora of fascinating experiments at Science of Intelligence, at the RBO Lab, and in the main building of the TU!
SCIoI Open Labs
In just one night, you’ll get a chance to become a swordfish and chase virtual fish in a mixed reality game, watch real drone footage from experiments in the open ocean, watch demos on behavioral contagion, learn how eye movements provide a window into the brain, and talk about collective intelligence with our PI Pawel Romanczuk! Do not miss these mesmerizing events, running throughout the evening, and mostly taking place in English.
WHERE: MAR building (Marchstraße 23, 10587 Berlin), various labs on the 2nd floor, 5:30–10pm
Become a swordfish and chase virtual fish in a mixed reality game
In the SCIoI showroom, you’ll be able to dive into the world of collective intelligence by becoming a marlin (a large swordfish) and chasing a swarm of virtual fish in an interactive projected playground. Through this experience, you will discover how fish use group strategies to evade predators—both in the virtual world and in nature.
How group structure shapes the spread of behaviour
A demo that illustrates how group size and density influence the spread of behavior by systematically manipulating these factors and evaluating their impact on contagion dynamics. (Photo by Rajesh Rajput on Unsplash)
Smart swarms – How math helps to understand swarm behavior and collective intelligence
This exciting lecture by Prof. Pawel Romanczuk is meant to give a short intro to collective intelligence, and can also serves as an introduction to the event “Become a swordfish and chase virtual fish in a mixed reality game!” (Photo by Teryll KerrDouglas on Unsplash)
Explore vision science & create art with your eyes
The SCIoI Vision Lab opens its doors to the public. Join us for a unique experiencewith two expeiments: in Discover Eye Tracking – Live, you will see demonstrations on how eye movements provide a window into the brain. In the experiment Draw with Your Eyes you’ll be trying out our eye-tracking system and drawing just by moving your eyes on the screen.
The Wonders of Robotics at the RBO Lab
Step into the world of next-generation robotics at the Robotics and Biology Lab (RBO Lab) and experience our three exciting demonstrations!
WHERE: MAR building (Marchstraße 23, 10587 Berlin) RBO Lab on 5th floor, 5:30–10pm, www.tu.berlin/en/robotics
Hands-on with the future: control a soft robotic hand
At the Robotics and Biology Lab you’ll be able to see, touch, and control a human-like robotic hand that’s soft, adaptive, and ready to interact. Watch live demonstrations of grasping and manipulation, then take control yourself and experience the future of robotics firsthand. Safe, smart, and intuitive—come and see soft robotics in action!
Robotic touch: feeling without seeing
How do you recognize objects just through touch? Our amazing soft robotic hand can do it too! Fitted with special sensors in its squishy fingers, it feels tiny changes in shape (deformations) to understand what it’s holding – without even looking! Come learn how it works, and even try controlling the hand yourself! Experience the future of robotics – where machines can truly feel!
Robot plays escape room
Join us to explore how we build intelligent systems by combining various abilities. Watch our robot in action as it manipulates objects, solves puzzles, operates furniture, and attempts to open the door — just like in an escape room!
The Excellent Pub Quiz of the seven Berlin Clusters of Excellence
Ever been to a pub quiz? For the third year in a row, the Berlin Clusters are getting together once again for the LNDW Pub Quiz! Here is how it works: Put together a team (2-4 people), find a creative team name and start answering the questions, which focus on the clusters’ research areas! Winners bring home great prizes! Advance registrations are not necessary, but do show up in time to sign up your team.
Fields & clusters participating: application-oriented mathematics (MATH+), intelligence research (Science of Intelligence), catalysis/green chemistry (UniSysCat), liberal politics (SCRIPTS), materials research (Matters of Activity), neuroscience (NeuroCure) and world literature (Temporal Communities).
Where: TU Berlin, Straße des 17. Juni 135, in the main building (ground floor left), Wangari Mathaai foyer at the back left, next to the Audimax (former cafeteria)
