The Admission Process

Every year, SCIoI recruits a new cohort of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers who want to make a difference in intelligence research. Our graduate program promotes the interdisciplinary education of young researchers at both the doctoral and postdoctoral level.
The next call for applications will open in fall 2023 and will be administered via an online application tool. Read below for an overview of our application process and the admission requirements. Please subscribe to our social media channels to receive updates once the positions are announced. To check out our currently open positions, scroll down to the end of this page.

Before you submit your application...

Make sure you have included the following documents:
– motivational letter
– curriculum vitae and basic information form
transcripts of records (for both Bachelor and Master)
– copies of degree certificates (Bachelor, Master, doctoral if applicable
– abstracts of Bachelor, Master and (if applicable) doctoral theses
– list of publications and one selected manuscript (if applicable)
– two names of qualified persons who are willing to provide references
– any additional documents that you believe may help us assess your competence.

The cluster welcomes applications from all disciplines that contribute to intelligence research. Applicants for PhD positions must hold a master’s degree at the time of starting the position. This means that if you are still in the process of completing your master’s degree, we will still accept your application, but you must be able to present your certificate before starting the position.
Each postdoctoral or doctoral position is associated with a project within SCIoI.

Our Application Process

After review by our faculty, selected candidates are invited for a personal presentation and interview, if possible in Berlin, otherwise digitally. Applicants invited to hold their interview in Berlin receive financial reimbursement for all or part of their travel expenses, depending on circumstances. Invitations are sent out four weeks in advance to allow candidates to obtain the necessary visas.

All doctoral researchers are required to successfully complete the teaching program. SCIoI is committed to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our research community.
