The Admission Process

Every year, SCIoI employs a new cohort of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers who want to make a difference in intelligence research. Our graduate program promotes the cross-disciplinary education of young researchers at the doctoral and postdoctoral level.
The next call for applications will open in late October 2021 and close by 25 November 2021 23:59:59 (CET) and will be managed via an online application tool. Read below for an overview of our application process.

Our Application Process

After review by our faculty, selected candidates are invited for a personal presentation and interview, if possible in Berlin, otherwise via Zoom. Applicants invited to hold their interview in Berlin receive financial reimbursement for all or part of their travel expenses, depending on circumstances. Invitations are sent out four weeks in advance to allow candidates to obtain the necessary visas.

All doctoral researchers are required to successfully complete the teaching program. SCIoI is committed to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our research community.

Application Tips
Preparing for the SCIoI symposium and interview

The cluster welcomes applications from all disciplines that contribute to intelligence research. Applicants for PhD positions must hold a master’s degree at the time of starting the position. This means that if you are still in the process of completing your master’s degree, we will still accept your application, but you must be able to present your certificate before starting the position.
Each postdoctoral or doctoral position is associated with a project within SCIoI. You can find the specific projects and the individual requirements here.

All doctoral and postdoctoral positions are full-time salaried positions at the TV-L E13 level (federal wage agreement or “Tarifvertrag der Länder”).
