We, Cluster of Excellence “Science of Intelligence (SCIoI)” are a highly interdisciplinary, Berlin-based research center that investigates intelligence, both biological and artificial in an ethically responsible way. The center is home to researchers from many disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral biology – but also researchers from robotics, vision, ML, and AI.

The person occupying the advertised position will be involved in several research projects at the intersection of these disciplines. Involvement can range from leading important parts of a project to consulting on certain aspects of technology.In all cases, however, the involvement should lead to a co-authorship in resulting applications.The position is designed for ambitious early-career researchers interested in an interdisciplinary academic career by enabling the following:
– learning about different fields of intelligence research
– acquiring a broad range of scientific skills
– gaining experience in designing interdisciplinary research
– building a prolific publication profile
– gaining visibility through participation in an internationally connected research center

Working field

Participation in interdisciplinary research projects on intelligence research in the context of the Cluster of Excellence“Science of Intelligence”

Support of such research projects through the development of software tool/libraries, experimental designs/apparatus,or conduction of experiments with humans, mice, or fish
Research collaboration with scientists from disciplines like psychology, neuroscience, behavioral biology, educational science, and philosophy

Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
They should have proven skills/background in following topics:
– Robotics, computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, control, or similar fields
– Software engineering
– Project management
– Electronic circuit design (optional)
– High level of personal initiative in conducting research projects in an interdisciplinary environment
– Very good English language skills; German language proficiency is an advantage but not required
– Willingness to participate in several research projects at a time to a degree that warrants co-authorship of research publications.
